NHS 111 is a replacement for NHS Direct and is a new and free telephone service to help you to access local healthcare services.
Available 24/7, you can call 111 if you need advice about what to do about a medical and dental problem. NHS 111 is not an emergency service. You should call 111 if:
- Your GP is not available
- You’re not sure who to talk to about your health
- It’s not a medical emergency, which requires 999
Your call will be answered by a trained adviser, supported by a team of nurses. You’ll be asked some questions so that the team can assess your symptoms. They will then determine the best health service for you and signpost you to available local services.
