Potential changes to gluten free prescribing
Published: 16 March 2014 | Categories: Community Healthcare NHS
We are currently looking at how we prescribe gluten free products and have been consulting with patients and practitioners about how to ensure that our prescribing practices are fair and equitable.
No decision has yet been made but recommendations to reduce the range of products available and introduce a set quantity will be considered by the Clinical Cabinet in April. We want to reassure patients with Coeliac disease that, whatever the final decision is, staple foods will still be available on prescription.
We have also made a commitment to provide health advice to support people to manage their diet and ensure they have the support and information they need to better self-manage their condition.
We’d like people to give us their feedback on what they think about gluten free food on prescription and which staple foods are important.
There’s still time to take a look at the different GF options the Clinical Cabinet will be considering and fill in our GF questionnaire and tell us what you think.
Please return your completed questionnaires to Michael Ellis, Nottingham North and East CCG, Civic Centre, Arnot Hill Park, Arnold, Nottingham, NG5 6LU by 11 April 2014.
