The met office reports that there is a strong probability of heatwave conditions between 10.00 on Friday and 09.00 on Thursday in the East Midlands.
The Met Office has issued a Level 3 alert – triggered when there is a is 90% or above risk of threshold temperatures being reached in one or more regions on at least two consecutive days. The Heat-health watch system comprises four levels of response based upon threshold maximum daytime and minimum night-time temperatures. These thresholds vary by region, but an average threshold temperature is 30 °C by day and 15 °C overnight.
Heatwaves can be dangerous, especially for the very young or very old or those with chronic disease. Advice on how to reduce the risk either for yourself or somebody you know can be obtained from NHS Choices, NHS 111 or your local pharmacy.
