Self care and over the counter medicines
From November 2018, over the counter medicines will no longer be routinely available on prescription for minor illnesses across Greater Nottingham.
This policy was already in place across the south CCGs (Nottingham North and East, Nottingham West and Rushcliffe) but following engagement over the summer, and the National guidelines on over the counter medicines for minor ailments, the City CCG area has also adopted this policy.
The restrictions do not affect prescribing of over the counter medicines for longer-term or more complex conditions, or where minor illnesses are symptomatic or a side effect of something more serious.
Patients will be encouraged to self care and speak to the local pharmacist for advice. A local campaign will be launched to support local people to self care.
